House on a Hill — A Name Earned by History

Guddadamane means "house on a hill". When this heritage property was first built, it was the only house in the entire vicinity — and that's how our family earned its name.

Our Story

A 150-Year-Old Home, Lovingly Preserved

Guddadamane Homestay is set inside a coffee plantation that has been owned and managed by our family for generations. The property itself is over 150 years old, built by our ancestors, and has been carefully refurbished to modern standards while preserving its original architecture, character and soul.

Coffee and pepper plantations were always at the heart of what we do. In 2009, we decided to open our home to travellers and share this quiet corner of Malnad — and so the homestay was born.

Meet The Hosts

Sarsa & Samanvith — At Your Service

The homestay is personally managed by Sarsa and Samanvith. Sarsa runs the kitchen with hands-on involvement to this day, making sure every meal that leaves it is up to her standards. Our intention is simple — to serve real, home-cooked meals and authentic Malnad & Chikmagalur cuisine.

Samanvith looks after bookings and guest relations, making sure every guest feels comfortable, looked after, and at home from the moment they arrive.

For more than a decade now, our family has been welcoming guests from across India and the world to Guddadamane — and we still personally greet every one of them at the door.

How We Started

From a Family Conversation to a Calling

Sitting with the family one day, Sarsa Manjunath decided we should host tourists visiting Chikmagalur. The family was excited — we started our research, spoke to everyone we could, and gathered both positive and not-so-positive opinions. This was uncharted territory for us. No one in our circle had run a homestay before.

But we stood strong and decided to venture out. With the necessary permissions and support from the Tourism Board of Karnataka in Chikmagalur, we welcomed our first guests in January 2010.

It has been a wonderful journey, and we'll continue to host and curate good experiences for our guests — one warm welcome at a time.

Why Guests Return

Our Strength Is Our People

Guddadamane Homestay is surrounded by nature and serenity — a perfect place for a short getaway with family or friends. But what truly makes our property feel like home is our team.

Our staff go beyond the call of duty to make sure every guest feels at ease. They're warm, friendly, and somehow remember everyone's name by the second day. They are the quiet reason so many of our guests come back, again and again.

Our aim has always been simple — for you to have a really, really good time here.
